Tell us about yourself:
My name is Kristin Bayly and I am an HR Consultant for HR Connect. I joined HR Connect in May last year after spending some time consulting on my own, so it was great to join a team of HR professionals who are really knowledgeable and passionate about what they do, and importantly a great bunch of people.
I live on a lifestyle block in Te Kowhai with my husband and two kids - my son Oliver is 6 and daughter Quinn is 4. We enjoy a little slice of country paradise along with our small collection of animals including a dog, cat, chickens and sheep.
What led you to this career?
I began working in HR when I returned home from several years working and living in Japan and England (which included a lot of travel around Asia and Europe) in 2007. I have a degree in Social Sciences with a major in Psychology from Waikato University and a diploma in Positive Psychology and Wellbeing which helped fill my curiosity and interest in the factors that bring out the best in people. I have worked for a variety of organisations in mostly generalist HR positions, from local Government, Not for Profit and private sector.
In 2015, when my son was born, I began consulting and taking on contract opportunities to allow myself some flexibility to spend time with my kids - I love being able to make time to hang out with them and to attend their activities including ballet, gymnastics and even help train the football team this year (that'll be interesting!).
What's your favourite part of your job?
I love the variety the job brings - both in the work that I do in being able to help our clients get great results for their people and their business, and in having the opportunity to work alongside some really inspiring people. I get to support people during good times and the not so good, and throughout I have had the opportunity to see some fabulous examples of leadership, and to help people build their capability, and for me that's really inspiring. HR is not always glamorous but resolving matters in a way that gets a great outcome, despite the circumstances, can be hugely satisfying.
